Just a little fun.
There was a short discussion on Raph’s site about “what if WoW had full loot”.
I found the mental image funny. So I made a quick comic (mostly for my own amusement).
Please note the homages to Imanewbie and B0N3D00D and pLaTeDeWd, my two very favourite UO comics of all time (and the first two I ever came across I think).
Admittedly I slapped it together quickly, and I didn’t even intend to put it on my blog. But what the hell. Talking about Imanewbie and BON3D00D and pLaTeDeWd is great.

I’m partial to Mcfly myself ;)
It’s funny when you think about the differences between those two games, and a game mechanic like full loot really brings those differences to the forefront. In WoW, loot is everything, the game itself is centered around working on your character’s loot. One of my favorite things about UO was that loot didn’t really matter, the best you were going to get was a vanq, and while it kind of sucks to lose a vanq, no big deal right?
You lose a fight, res, restock and head back out. Escpecially on freeshards the only progression is maxing out your 7x and a few crafters and from taht point on you just enjoy the game as is. If Darkfall is ever released (yea right) it will be interesting to see if they take the same approach towards loot, where it’s not really that big of a deal when you lose your stuff.

McFly is a bigger legend than most people know. Even UO people.
I was talking to him a week or two ago, actually. I wanted to host his old site and get those comics back up. If he ever gets the gumption to make new comics, I’d give him full access to that part of the site to update if he wanted to keep it hosted with me.
Unfortunately I haven’t heard from him in a while.

I think Mcfly’s comics are really a perfect example of the kind of fun you can have in an MMO when you give people the freedom to interact with each other.

The problem is that with that freedom, some people abuse it to the fullest extent possible and end up forcing the removal of the freedom from the game rules.
Even McFly played on the edge, but that’s why it was funny.
Some people have no class whatsoever, and it’s not funny or good for the game.
