Downturn in population in WoW. Nobody else benefits. People are getting tired of being forcefully strapped to treadmills.
There. My predictions for ‘08. I had to get them up because the NFL playoffs are on.

Uh, okay.
Darkfall:
Screenshots and/or a short video some time around the summer.
Possibly one more “content release” at some point later on in the year.
Possibly some vague hints about beta.
Still not admitting that they don’t have a game.

It’s funny, I decided to do predictions because some other blogs did them in a really witty, humorous fashion.
Then I was like “Fuck, playoffs are on” and threw that post up because I wanted credit if the Packers actually won.

Vaporware Darkfall > WoW
however,
actual Darkfall = retirement. I made the follow joke to my gf - I asked her if she had seen Sly Stone’s Cliffhanger, and she said yes. I then asked her if she recalled the highly improbable scene of climbing up the mountain in a t-shirt to get away from John Lithgow and other baddies, and she said yes. I then asked her if she remembered how Sly survived, namely by finding a shack with some old clothes in it. She said vaguely.
I said when Darkfall comes out I am moving into that shack and putting a satellite dish for internet connection for the next 30 years.

Maybe. Problem is that you have about as much chance of seeing Darkfall released as making it up to that mountain cabin in a tshirt.
I don’t fault Darkfall fanbois. I was one. Big time. That was also in 2001, and then briefly again in 2003. Ie 5-7 years ago.
Guess what. No game. Sorry guys.
IF they were backed by a very seriously large company and had a verifiable 75+ million in development funds, I’d totally be holding out hope after 7 years that they’re JUST MAKING THE BEST GAME EVER. At this point, since neither of those things are the case, I don’t really concern myself with Darkfall.
I don’t think they understand what they’re getting themselves into with that ruleset if they actually release a game, either.

Nonetheless, the way MMOs are at the moment, a figment of the imagination is better than the current stock. I have started playing board games again - insane fun.
As for what they are letting themselves in for - I agree. But on the other hand, and to bring politics back into it, the market is clamouring for “change” and it may be the case that they dont care about what form it may take. That doesnt bode well for maintaining subscriptions, I suppose.
This may be delusion, but then again I only heard about darkfall when I quit WoW a year ago, so the fanboism still holds novelty value for me.

Prediction Fails.
Dude, I think there’s only one loser who still likes to bellyache about all of that old shit.
Believe it or not, I’m still confronted with old IPY dramas from time to time. Not as much four years on or whatever, but for the first few years… hell yeah. You didn’t exactly see me doing any homo little interviews or making rabid derogatory comments about people whenever the opportunity arose, though.
The people who know me know how to point out sour grapes and the gay little vendettas. So when someone comments on IPY, look for those people if you want a line by line commentary. I’m, like, so over it, baby.
I ran an honest ship through and through, and even the people who hate me the most will attest to that. That is, the people who were actually there. I got over the ones who liked to make shit up for attention a long, long time ago. It was sad then, and if someone is still doing it.. it’s REALLY sad now.
And yeah, sometimes I yelled and cursed and told people where to shove various objects. I had the wrong attitude for a guy who had to accept so much bullshit and backstabbing over pixels on a day to day. But I learned a fuck of a lot about people, and that’ll serve me forever.
