I WANT TO SEE MY FACE IN THAT HORSE’S ASS!
Okay, so, Lum, being a moving part of the NCSoft machine, enjoys polish. In fact, commands his minions to go forth and demand polish!
All well and good!
Except… do we really want three companies to eventually own, operate, and produce every MMOG on the planet?
Kind of like how three companies currently make movies, three companies sell you health insurance, three companies beam the news into your cranium..
Aren’t we over the whole “three companies” thing already? Can’t we have a little diversity, even if it means putting up with shitty MMOGs that DIDN’T cost $100m+ to make?
Remember UO? Christ, I logged in and took three seconds between steps. No, I didn’t live in fucking Taiwan. I was on the east cost, I played an east coast server. The lag really wasn’t my fault. It was theirs.
And guess what?
I didn’t fucking care. Game was great, shit improved, I had a fantastic time.
Now, ironically the game WAS owned by EA, but to be fair I’m pretty sure nobody at EA knew it was being developed.
Irregardless… support smaller companies. Play small and mid-sized MMOs. Fuck polish.. certainly don’t demand it. The only people who have enough money to make sure your pretty little head rests quietly at night without having experienced a single crash to desktop in the last four months are the behemoth companies who you probably SHOULDN’T prefer own 100% of… well, for fuck sakes, everything.

Mm, I think I tend to reference the timeframe, the social dynamics, and the situation more than I reference the game itself.
The actual game Ultima Online is horribly dated and simply not in a complete state for 2008. Basically people hop on player run shards to macro up character unattended and then go out and script-pvp their enemies into piles of rubble. Over and over.
Then they quit.
That’s what the game has degenerated into, and without a lot of rethinking and retooling, that’s all it’ll be. It’s just not the same game it used to be because of the change in times, programs like EasyUO, player’s familiarity with the mechanics of the game, and on and on. It’s because Quake with (macro) skillups.
Can you fix that?
Sure.
Would you want to?
Probably not. Just make a new game.

By the way, you’d never camp my house or own me. I’m fucking elite, noob. My dueling skills were top 10 on IPY - Top 5 considering how many people were scripting shit.
Maybe I’ll start an Azaroth.org Quake 3 server. Fuck I’m elite with a railgun.

By the way - I’ll consider “fixing it” for 50% royalties. Just putting that out there.
I’d have guaranteed double subscription rates in 2003. 2008? I have no idea. Probably not, unless you could really refine the new client.
Of course, I have ideas for that too.
