Jeff Freeman

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

My only reaction was “What.. the.. fuck…” when I stumbled across a thread on a forum announcing the news of Jeff’s death. I had a hard time believing it, actually. But more and more confirmation rolled in as the thread got longer. Then, a link to Lum’s blog where he was confirming it as well. It sunk in, and disbelief turned to sadness.

No, I didn’t know Jeff. Not in real life, and barely online. He read my blog sometimes, and I read his.

I have no idea what he thought of my blog, but I know what I thought of his. Or more, what I thought of him.

Any time he posted here, or any time I read his blog, one main thought would come to mind.

“Wow, this is a smart cookie.”

Whenever he wrote, his intelligence and wit came through vividly. He was unique in his ability to force me to read something twice, and then crack a smile. Because of that, his is one of the few blogs I read on a regular basis.

Talk to ya later, Jeff.

People have been asking me lately to bring IPY back. Not really anything new enough to provoke an entire post.. mostly because I’ve been getting asked the same questions for years now. My answers have always been the same, so a new post rehashing all of that would be dumb (and thus, you can probably look for it in the near future).

Today, Raph Koster, original Lead Designer of Ultima Online, made a post on his blog called “How Metaplace was born.

This is particularly interesting because in the process of describing how the concept of Metaplace, his new project, he goes into some detail regarding his days working on UO and one idea in particular that he pitched.

Mark Jacobs has a blog.

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Aside from one brief conversation over a year ago, I don’t know Mark Jacobs whatsoever.

However, I am hoping that linking to his blog will get me access to the Warhammer Preview Weekend (Part Deux).

Go —> here for his blog.
