IPY Poll: Synch Dump PvP

by Azaroth | September 14th, 2009

A couple of places to read up on this topic are here and here. Essentially the advent of modern programs offers the ability for a group to precisely time spell “dumps”, allowing for a generally instant kill of a member of the opposing group. While using this tactic as well as (to some degree) defending against it has become considered somewhat of a matter of skill in the current UO PvP community, it can easily be automated through various cheat programs and is likely quite offputting to those who aren’t heavily involved in the UO free server PvP community currently, providing a rather large barrier to entry around the PvP game for many of those people.

As such, I present the first IPY 2.0 Poll. Click this post to vote.

Yeah I think most everyone following the discussion realizes how far away it’s going to be, I’d be happy if you got it off the ground in 2010. More time always means a better product when it comes to MMOs. The word starting to spread now is good, there’ll be a giant hype machine behind it which will cause an enormous turnout. I think it’s pretty universal everyone is thankful you’re willing to do this for us again. One IPY was more than any of us could ever ask for, but two and maybe even a third? I’d buy you a beer if I wasn’t looking at palm trees and you at maples or whatever the fuck is up there.

  2. Take heed of what big cheezit is saying. In order for this shard to be successful, you need to find a way to break unauthorized third party programs (namely EUO). There are scripts out there to pull 10 bars in 1-2 seconds, intelligently cycle targets, auto tab, queue purple pots, and only target heals when you are missing a certain amount of hp…the list goes on. If people can play IPY2 with an old, non-custom client, some of these people WILL use these types of scripts.

  3. Honestly, it isn’t EasyUO that is the problem. It is so limited, and slow, that it’s hardly an effective cheat for PvP. It can’t pull bars, heal effectively, or cycle targets better than Razor. All I am going to say is that a lot of people are unaware of a lot of things nowadays. UO is all about cheating now. Your top PvPers are cheating, or at least trying to get their hands on cheats, no matter what they are saying. And now it is easier than ever.

There are programs out there that will tell you everything. Wrestle timer, halberd timer, poison tick timer, cast timer, everything. Think of never accidentally punching and avoiding the automatic tab-in that casting a spell does. Possible, and people do it.

Jesus christ Cheez it I had no idea that kind of shit was floating around. This type of thing is mostly on hybrid at the moment right? I really don’t see too much of it on the smaller t2a shards, but it’s a good point considering alot of these people will play IPY 2.0. Send azaroth an email detailing all you know about it cheez, maybe it will help him a little in at least knowing what he is dealing with. People are already going to be googling their balls off trying to find it with the details you posted. I was never that bothered by people using easyuo to synch pvp, it was rare and not very effective when it was used compared to a skillged group. But these “tweaks” make me pretty pissed considered I actually do all that shit in my head, and feel it is a big part of where my supposed “dueling and grouping skills” come from.

  5. I am probably making it sound worse than it is. A couple Hybrid players have access to some of what I had explained on their hacked Sallos clients. But it sure wasn’t all that hard to re-create these, and more, for my Razor client. And I wouldn’t be surprised if more people have discovered this.

  6. Anyone found to be using cheats to sync dump in game, will find themselves opening their door IRL and being shat on simultaneously by me and a few select constituents. Now THAT is what I call sync dumping.

  7. Hehe i’ll say it again man, Easy UO synch scripts are rare and hardley effective just like pisces said, The problem is that fuckig krios client. I have seen it in action before, and the damn thing will inform your party if you are targeted by a spell, auto cure and heal with incredible speed, it will drag bars automatically, basically all the things cheezit said, are standard issue krios client functions. You gotta ban this client above all else. If you ban EUO thats great as well, mainly because EUO’s big thorn is its resource gathering capabilities, but please prioritize krios client over EUO.

Alias from Hybrid is the creator and main user of this client if that means anything to ya =o\

  8. Oh yeah PS. There is a version of it called “Salos” or it may acctually be called Salos and people have just called it Krios client because Krios is the guy who made it.

  9. Here guys, Watch this video. It clearly shows how OP the cheats can get in UO

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXzs267imWE

  10. Is there no way to ban 3rd party clients? I agree with everyone above who’s said that they’re the biggest problem with Ultima these days. Many players are terrible at Ultima but good at Razor, Krios, EZUO, etc.

And is there any way to tone down macroing? I’ve always thought that grinding out skills is a huge part of ultima being able to 7x gm in your sleep is for pansies. Maybe just make it so you can’t gain combat skills while in a guard zone or house to make people actually play a little.

  11. Would someone point to me a shard like “old school pvp” with a duel pit and insta 7xgm, i have a urge of duelin. that is before I slit my wrist

  12. I’m duelin’ on IPY right now, laughing at you n00bs.

  13. damn :( give us access to peeveepee with you

  14. Let Umbral come play Az :P Fuck let us all come play!

  15. Krrios client doesn’t really do any of what Zigo said

The only Krrios client that would work on another shard besides Hybrid would be Beta 13. And I don’t think anyone uses that anymore

  16. … I could be wrong as im not a user of the client it self, but I know for a fact 50% of the hybrid player base uses a special client that makes running smoother, auto cures, and sends a party message upon being targeted by a spell. If the client can only work on one particulare server then I guess its not really a threat at all, but I can’t imagine that being the case.

  17. Running LOOKS smoother, doesn’t auto cure, and it only send a party message upon TARGETING a spell

  18. Obviously…. you know all about it.

  19. If the shard does happen… no duel pits and please don’t let it turn into vesper bridge guard line bull shit like redemption was. that’s my 2 cents.

  20. Sorry… this is my third post. I’m a drunk and my thoughts are fragmented, but let these idiots cheat. It’s always hilarious to watch someone who isn’t cheating kick the shit out of them.

  21. pisces_iscariot says:

Yeah that’s an awesome idea. You should set up a limited test center for people, stuck on an island (I vote marble like OSP), and hold a monthly 1v1 and 2v2 tournament until IPY comes up. No prize or anything like that, just a tournament for fun. I bet your connection would be maxed out and this would be INSANELY good for P.R. with the added bonus of holding over everyone who’s already flooding this site. Not to mention filling a much needing niche/itch in the UO community at the moment, which is really your overall goal in the first place.

    It would be badass, IMO.

  22. pisces_iscariot says:

Also note people are now making up fan fiction about your ultima online server. Being away from the UO community as much as you have azaroth, you really don’t realize how much everyone misses IPY. To those who played it, it was the pinnacle of freeshard fundom, to those who got on board late and missed the server, it’s the mythical unicorn everyone keeps talking about. There are people who’ve never played the server, and are dying for you to put it up just based on second hand experiences and shitty razor packet videos on http://www.uomovies.com

Krioss client / Salos / Playuo are all names of the same client (albeit different releases with different features), and it is possible to make it where you can’t connect with these clients. You’re not going to be able to get rid of 100% of cheating, not even modern MMOs with huge budgets can accomplsih that, but as long as you take steps and make it hard for the average everyday user to get ahold of and working on your server, followed by swift and severe punishment on those caught doing it, will still make for a fun playing experience.

  23. Well, hopefully you’re not all just being nostalgic to the point of delusion. I can’t imagine IPY differs so greatly from every server since that’s copied it.

  24. Az, his nostalgia is not delusional. It’s the truth.

Iced, it’s not easier to come up with the names of the people that were way better than you and I on LS than it is to just say “oh yea well I beat them lol.” I knew you’d know who those people were. Anyone who played LS would recognize them as being amongst the best players.

I beat apollo creed at boxing right after I won the stanley cup against the redwings and then I beat the 1972 miami dolphins 1 v 11.

U see wut I did ther?

  25. Let us play!

  26. amateursuperhero says:

I agree with pisces. I have talk to my friends I played IPY with about it pretty often, despite having played tons of free shards and other games with them since. It’s still the thing that sticks out for everyone, and the only thing that would instantly get them all playing UO again.

My friend’s little brother and all his friends grew up on WoW. It’s funny how they literally never get tired of IPY stories. You know something must have been great when kids are enthralled with stories about a goddam computer game they never even played.

I think the thing that was cool about UO is more than any other game, you really needed people to accomplish anything. It wasn’t like other games where you can go to a safety zone and just grind up your character or fight monsters for gold. In UO you could do the same thing if you wanted, but if you were flying solo, chances are someone was going to find you, kill you, and take your stuff. You needed to roll with your friends to protect yourself, even if you were mining or hunting monsters. I think this created a unique kind of community that really drew people in– and IPY perfected that. I think that’s why it was so different for people.

  27. i will be booking a week off of work, buying lots of weed and coffee, and getting my GY house when the shard decides to open up.

    (and crack cocaine)

  28. And i really couldnt care less who cheated and who does cheat, im just trying to ruffle some feathers here. We are all coming together for this last shot at uo – and this literally is the last shot that UO has. I thought UOSA was going to be my last shot then heard about IPY.

Looks like the demons I once thought were slayed are not dead yet… the addiction lives on.

  29. I think you’ll have to be pretty quick to snag that GY house spot.

  30. Yeah I dont even know what I will have to do to make gold… I imagine I will be outdone seeing as all of my old guildies have swarn off the game for good and have lost contact with them shortly after ipy closed, and I will be all alone on this shard.

Oh well, I always manage to make some friends on the shard… I imagine I will give up on housing, and try to get to 80 magery to flamestrike pack horses in town just like I did when IPY first opened… oh, those were the days.

  31. I’ll probably mess with things a bit so the best gold making process isn’t known automatically. It won’t be macroing fancy shirts, that’s for sure.

If vendors have limited gold supply, that makes things even more interesting. Maybe the best way to make gold actually ends up being playing the game, OMG!

One could even create random events during resource gathering that distinguish a macroer from an active player in profit gained. It’d need to be thought through and changed up so it didn’t start getting scripted, but rewarding people for playing the game manually is high on my to-do list.

  32. “Maybe the best way to make gold actually ends up being playing the game, OMG!”

“rewarding people for playing the game manually is high on my to-do list.”

Thats what I like to hear!!! IMO, being able to macro millions of gold and 7x GMs while you sleep is nearly as bad as handing out bank checks and skill balls.

What are people’s thoughts on having no gains for combat skills while you’re in a house or guard zone? It would force people to actually play to gain pvp skills.

Anything that will increase playing and decrease macroing will get my support.

  33. Generally people are always against change and I think people arent thinking rationally about this choice, Azaroth has a real good point here. I remember playing with him back on blitz and him telling me about some game called darkfall back in 2000 and how it had some good ideas, I’ve always shared opinions on the overall ruleset of how an MMO game should be “made” and think that any system would eventually be tweaked and made workable. The fact that veteran players of IPY or divin or any other T2A shard would not have as much of a head start on the PKing/Order-Chaos stuff could only be a good thing. Lets face it, any spell system will eventually be “solved” by the best players, so why not just keep an open mind and let the rebirth of a great shard be a true restart, and a level playing field for all players.

  34. I never got a full chance to play the original IPY, though I fully regret not jumping at this opportunity. I can’t wait to get a chance to play on IPY 2! I haven’t PvPed on UO in quite some time, but I can’t wait to dip my feet in it again.

  35. Also since I can’t edit, I must double post.

I realize this isn’t a major concern due to it not being within the T2A time period, but I always liked the general idea of factions. It allowed people to PvP without griefing people too much as well as give people incentive to get better with the ranking system. I realized OSI failed miserably in some aspects of faction, specifically the sigils. O/C only goes so far when it comes to PvP as there is no objective other than guild vs guild combat, it offers nothing tangible as a reward.
If griefing becomes a major problem, a faction-like system offers a way for people to PvP with a tangible objective, and can even go further with such things as town control. This can be done with factions or a slight revamp of the current O/C system put in place.

I realize this may not even be considered as it doesn’t fit the time period, but it could be a simple method to deter some of the Pking issues that generally run rampant within free shards. There will always be the people who PK to make others miserable, but an organized system can lure some other those people to fight for a team effort based cause.

  36. i hereby announce a dungeon crawl through despise. day 1 of ipy launch.

  37. BTW MATES ARE WE GOING TO START SOME FORUMS OR AN IRC? im not sure whos talking in what post here boys.

  38. Sure, I absolutely intend to add objectives and possibly rewards to O/C. I don’t want to get too wild with it though, as I’m sure some people like the simplicity of O/C and might get disappointed.

    But we’ll see.

  39. But I need -coders-.

    Seriously.

I’m starting to describe dealing with these people as “herding cats” on a daily basis. It’s ridiculous.

  40. I agree whole heartily with your plans on O/C, making it simple yet objective base is the way to go. Factions on OSI were almost too complicated with how town control went.

I can’t help you with the coding part, as I am nub when it comes to that.
    D=

  41. Maybe you partially link O/C with Anti-PK/PK bonuses or something of the like. Controlling a town or control point or whatever for the set time (48hrs??week?? IDK) allows Order blues to recall into dungeons, whilst chaos controlling it would allow red members to recall into dungeons, would have a slight effect on the entire playerbase.
Order controlling = busier dungeons, less profitable.
Chaos controlling = quieter dungeons, more profitable, more risk.
Obviously being a certain alignment wouldnt be mandatory for being in O/C but it would be able to stop it being abused by multi-accounting PKs.(Reds can still be Order but they wont be able to recall into dungeons if Order are controlling the whatever the hell it is) just a vague idea.

  42. dont let this turn into forumfall, pls
    :(

  43. Only targetting players on screen when you cast or removing sticky bars (eventhough this probably wont happen for obvious reasons) would be hillarious.

    “Everyone hide, ready now!”

  44. I was fairly certain there was no such thing as a sticky bar only as far back as a few years ago.

The only thing the targeting change will alter is the ability for people to roll around in packs with spells up and instakill people once they come on screen.

  45. I didnt even know sticky bars existed my entire time playing Divinity and Uosecondage… then I updated my client and said to myself “god, this is why i was getting owned”

  46. Funny “Faust (45)” Personally i hear a-lot about you giving bad advice for UOSA please dont make advice here you seem like troll.

  47. Everyone that whines about synch dumping whines because they can’t. It’s part of the game as a whole, and as far as the Krisos client or whatever pulling bars and smart targeting and what have ya, I don’t really think it would even make a difference. When you take a good group of people that can actually pvp and know how to field, against a crap group with a hacked client, my 10 dollars is on the good group. The game has evolved a lot and synching has became a major part of the game, and to tweek that or disable it or whatever would throw everything off. The only reason we didn’t synch in 1999 is because we didn’t have the resources to do it. Why am I rambling.

    • Nice goatse homepage. I disagree about your “didn’t have the resources to do it” – the capability was there, the culture wasn’t. Sort of like the zerg culture wasn’t there, the resources were. It’s really taken a life of its’ own and is something that had to be feeled out over the years to get to this point. Guilds didn’t roll 8 deep all the time on OSI back in the day, but they do in modern UO. I think this is a result of the culture of online games – Realm vs Realm tailored MMOs, the boom of noobs around the time of 2nd/3rd gen releases, etc. I think you can make a case for either… I definitely think the resources were harder to come by but they were there. Why this thread? Aieeeee

No but seriously dude… take that link off, someone WILL accidently click that [not cool]. Are you trying to troll in a subtle manner or something? :(
