No, not in that “Multiply and be fruitful” way.
I probably couldn’t count all of the times I’ve been asked “How can I help?” in reference to the new IPY project. A lot of the time, these folks aren’t coders and they aren’t artists – they just haven’t dedicated their lives to doing one of those two things, but they still want to help.
That’s great, I think. I truly appreciate the enthusiasm of the community for what we’re doing.
Now that my team is nice and big again – robust and powering along unstoppably much like a hungry ogre in high heels going into what I’m sure will soon become an out-of-control stampede toward victory and rabbit stew, I can start turning my attention on to a few other things while they do my dirty work for me.
Content design is one of the most difficult things about creating an online game. It requires care, creativity, fine motor skills and a LOT of hands to populate a world with interesting little quests. Each quest has to be hand crafted by SOMEONE, right?
With my coders working diligently away on my many whacky game systems, there’s little time for this. Fortunately, turning to the community has a plethora of benefits:
1) It gets them involved.
2) It saves me all KINDS of time.
3) It produces candidates for the ever-so-elusive green robes at launch, which will be nice to have sorted out ahead of time.
4) Finally, it benefits the entire project and every player to enjoy it in the future by filling the world with interesting bits of content.
Try your hand at setting up a RunUO server and getting cozy with the XMLSpawner2 system. Design, execute and test your quests… then submit! I’ll post the very best to be voted on by the community, and those that they deem worthy will go right into the game (some alteration may occur!).
Think you’ve got a great story to lead people through? A fantastic starting quest for new players to enjoy? A really awesome way to liven up a city with lots of interesting NPC folks?
Try your hand at it, and have your work immortalized!
Are you with us?
…
I’m getting sued, aren’t I.
Winrar.
I log into IPY2 for the first time and play for the next five hours and my girlfriend realizes that it’s just like Darkfall and all the other games before that and starts shouting. I ignore her as I try to set up a macro and the situation escalates and then I yet again achieve the ‘born-again virgin’ status. But I also manage to get a sweet lot for my house in the swamp outside Destard.
Everyone knows the swamps are for poor people.
and ogres
Is it up yet..
Let me know if you need any help – after all, any good team needs a Wild Card.
May I be assigned to the committee dealing w/ Population Control?
fatduck is gay fuck you
im at home, opening day, smoking weed and trying to determine what are acceptable times to masterbate in between power gaming for 48 hours.
CAN WE GET AN IRC OR FORUMS GOING HERE M8′S?
IRC failed the first day it was up. Forums would be nice though.
IRC only failed cuz I wasn’t intimately involved in its launch, duh.
Sup fatty + pud
“Test night on the IPY dev server!”
I’d probably be upset if I wasn’t occupied with cspromod,
Sir, there couldn’t be a public test without you. Entirely internal, coders only. Sorry for the mixup. ;)
how did the test go?
still a lot of work ahead of you guys?
problems?
keuse in a 48 hour gaming sesh youve gotta masturbate over all the hot chick chars, take some tips from a pro.
Problem with the test is that I wasn’t there, duh!
just an FYI, and I’m sure you’re already aware, but the return of IPY has sparked interest in some of the largest gaming advertisement venues available. It’s encouraging for initial population to see discussions of IPY on the darkfall and WoW forums.
Not trying to be the devil’s advocate, but “some of the largest gaming advertisement venues available” and “darkfall and WoW forums” are not the same thing.
That being said, we’re all still patiently waiting to login sometime this year :)
well, maybe that was a bit overboard. :)
I was just excited to see that word of mouth reached such a large audience
we need a forum to sustain the community as we await the shard’s opening date.
!!!!!!!
Heh.. I said a few months ago that I would expect an opening date to be sometime around april. I’d guess from the goings on that it’ll be at least april before there’s talk about a set release date.
Patience. Doing it right is better than doing it ASAP.
as per one of the fuckwads on a different message board talking about IPY, he said something along the lines of “C++ programmers I can understand, but pixel artists? they are doing a custom shard” – because there would be no reason for pixel artists for a plain jane uo shard. so i think azaroth has something big in store for us, i just want to play so much… there are no other uo freeshard that i want to play for more than a month at the moment
I feel that, mane. Want to play so bad.
Well, we’ll see how much can get done before you guys show up with pitchforks at my door. I expect the flaming to start any time soon. ;)
I’d say the mob is moments away. So you best hurry :/
im already carrying the torches
If Vancouver can host the Winter Olympics without having any snow, IPY should have plenty of slack in the managing expectations department :)
In the spirit of current events, we’re working on melting ice island which is killing the new luger NPC left and right. At least the simulation is accurate.
In fact, we’re even implementing the Kevin Smith rule – 2 Overweight 2 Gate.
Still looking for one badass XMLSpawner2 guy.
