Oh my, it’s been a while!
We’ve been working hard and fighting to keep things running smoothly for a long time! Unfortunately, SOTR fell by the wayside for a little while, but it’s back now!
Check out our forums for questions posted each week that will be answered on the blog.
Noxin asks:
“Are you guys working on a fix for tracking? “
Yes, people seem to want a change to AOS tracking.
One thing you have to consider about AOS is that the changes were made for a Trammel ruleset. When changing Tracking, you have to strongly consider how it’ll affect balance in a Felucca-only world.
In AOS, you require high tracking to track someone with high hiding and stealth.
Sure, that sounds all well and good – logical, even – but who picks up tracking on a template? Lots of thieves, stealth PKs, and so on take hiding and even stealth. Nobody has Tracking. After this change, these folks will not be tracked.
So what counters the newly overpowered templates?
Do you make tracking more useful somehow? If so, how can you encourage people to take it on their character without mucking things up or making it necessary to have?
So we’re looking at this from a certain perspective. We have several fixes that we’re thinking about (even tracking dogs!), but we’re trying to take everything into consideration before changing anything.
Violent Beard asks:
“Are there still new players joining the shard? What do you think about the current player base and such? “
Yes, we definitely have new players joining. In fact, most of the players you see out and about are new players.
Many of them are foreign. IPY is, for example, very popular in Turkey.
I think we need to do more for them, but the NEW guild is a great step in the right direction. In the near future, we’re looking at things like in-game tutorials and so on.
As far as the current playerbase, I really enjoy it. There’s not a lot to complain about. I think, currently, we have a really awesome community. We just need to work at keeping things fresh for them and adding new things for people to enjoy.
Basia asks:
“What is the status with the customized houses you guys created? I would love to see some of those in game. “
Actually, very soon! These are planned for one of the next patches. We’re just sorting out the details on how they’re presented. We don’t want them to be too common, and some of them are WAY too big to get placed legally in the remaining space.
Al Bundy and GG want to know what’s next:
“What kind of things would you like to see added within the next 6 months?”
“Please write the blog and tell us when you plan to have things implemented on this server. I’ve been such a good girl and I’m still anxiously awaiting my custom alchemy set. “
The next six months? That’s a while!
Here’s what our release schedule looks like over the short term:
- Fire Dungeon
- O/C/B Rework (Kings, Commanders, Traps, Brazier number and location changes, more militia rewards)
- Static Housing Rental (Some for gold, some for Ogre Coins)
- Inactive Account Skill Scroll Promotion
- Softened RoT Caps
- Yes, Custom Alchemy… Fire Dungeon will have a “Fire Mortar” added after a short period of time.
- PvE Armor (Fire Dungeon will have the first Elemental Grey set, which will also allow taunting/tanking of elementals as a warrior)
- In-Game Newbie Tutorial
- Coloured Ore (However, the veins will be far more scarce than they used to be)
- Custom Houses. About eight will go in, and require large amounts of resources to complete.
Phew, sounds like a lot! How could they ever deliver on that?
Actually, we’ve been working hard and most of it is just about ready to go.
Many of these things will happen in the short term, as I’ve mentioned. Once these have been completed, we’ll begin a cycle of analyzing our large systems and giving them “another pass” as we did through development and beta. Problems and weak spots will be looked at, bug fixes, changes and additions will be made to each system one by one.
So perhaps one month we’d be concerned with improving Pirates or Detectives, and so on. We think it’ll give people something to look forward to and a focused topic of discussion on the forums for the community. Especially since we’ll be working on that exact system at the time, we’ll be especially interested in what everyone has to say.
Thanks, and sorry for the late SOTR! Things get busy sometimes around here!
